In a bid to enhance its customer experience and compete directly with industry giants like Amazon Prime and Walmart+, Target is set to launch a new paid membership program called Target 360 this week, alongside a revamped Target Circle loyalty program.
The rollout of these new offerings coincides with Target Circle Week, scheduled from April 7 to April 13, during which Target Circle members can enjoy special discounts and deals on various items, including up to 40% off select spring products.
Cara Sylvester, Target’s executive vice president and chief guest experience officer, emphasized the retailer’s commitment to building strong customer relationships through these initiatives. Target’s move to introduce a paid membership program aligns with its broader strategy to provide more affordable and convenient shopping options for its customers.
Target 360, the centerpiece of the revamped loyalty program, will be available starting April 7 at an annual subscription fee of $99, with a limited-time promotional offer of $49 until May 18. This paid membership will offer free same-day delivery within an hour and free two-day shipping through Target’s delivery service, Shipt. Moreover, Target 360 members will gain access to Shipt’s extensive catalog of over 100 retail partners, facilitating fast shipping from popular brands like Sephora, Ulta Beauty, and Petco.
One notable feature of the Target 360 subscription is “no-rush returns,” allowing members an additional 30 days to return purchased items. Additionally, Target Circle Card members will benefit from extended return benefits as part of the enhanced loyalty program.
The introduction of Target 360 marks a significant step for Target, positioning it to directly compete with Amazon Prime and Walmart+ in the rapidly expanding home delivery market. Amazon Prime, which debuted in 2005, offers free and unlimited same-day or two-day shipping services and has since expanded to include additional perks like Amazon Fresh for grocery delivery and special discounts at Whole Foods.
Walmart+, launched more recently, provides unlimited free shipping, fuel savings, video streaming, and early access to promotions for its subscribers.
In addition to Target 360, Target is also refining its existing loyalty offerings under the Target Circle umbrella. The free-to-join Target Circle membership enables customers to earn cashback on purchases and receive personalized offers and discounts on a wide range of products.
Moreover, members with a Target Circle Card can enjoy additional benefits such as up to 5% off select purchases, extended return periods, and discounted pricing on Target 360 membership.
During Target Circle Week, members can take advantage of exclusive deals and discounts across various product categories, including floor care, swimwear, outdoor living, toys, bedding, and more. Members spending specified amounts on homecare products or Ulta Beauty at Target will also receive Target gift cards.
Overall, Target’s strategic initiatives aim to enhance customer engagement, drive loyalty, and position the retailer competitively in the evolving retail landscape dominated by e-commerce giants. Target’s focus on delivering value and convenience underscores its commitment to meeting the evolving needs of modern shoppers.
