The Kremlin released a statement detailing Putin’s conversation with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, where Putin expressed hope that all sides would act with reason to prevent a dangerous escalation that could have catastrophic consequences for the entire region. Raisi, in turn, stressed that Iran’s actions were defensive and limited, with Tehran showing no interest in escalating tensions further.

Both leaders acknowledged the longstanding Palestinian-Israeli conflict as a root cause of the current turmoil in the Middle East. The strike resulted in the death of several IRGC members, including a senior commander, Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi.

The international community remains concerned about the prospect of further escalation in the region. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres warned of a looming full-scale conflict, calling for urgent de-escalation.

President Biden has intensified efforts to broker a ceasefire, discussing the situation with Iraq’s prime minister and reiterating U.S. commitment to Israel’s security. The White House emphasized that the U.S. is not seeking war with Iran, a sentiment communicated to Prime Minister Netanyahu.
