New York Woman Files $5 Million Lawsuit Alleging Mayor Eric Adams’ Sexual Assault

In a dramatic turn of events, a New York City woman has filed a $5 million lawsuit against Mayor Eric Adams, alleging sexual assault that reportedly occurred three decades ago. The lawsuit, filed on Monday, has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, adding further tumult to Adams’ already turbulent tenure as mayor.

According to the bombshell lawsuit, the accuser, Lorna Beach-Mathura, claims that Mayor Adams sexually assaulted her by masturbating in front of her after she turned down his demands for oral sex. The incident allegedly took place when Adams was a Transit Police officer, and Beach-Mathura approached him for assistance with a workplace issue.

Beach-Mathura’s lawyer, Megan Goddard, expressed admiration for her client’s courage in coming forward with the allegations. Goddard emphasized the importance of holding sexual abusers accountable, regardless of their position or status.

Mayor Adams vehemently denies the allegations, with New York City Corporation Counsel Sylvia O. Hinds-Radix stating that Adams fully denies the “outrageous allegations.” Hinds-Radix also highlighted Adams’ history of advocating against racism within the NYPD, dismissing the allegations as ludicrous.

The lawsuit paints a harrowing picture of the alleged assault, detailing how Adams took advantage of Beach-Mathura’s vulnerability when she sought his help. It describes how Adams allegedly drove Beach-Mathura to a remote location under false pretenses, where he proceeded to make lewd demands and engage in sexual misconduct.

Despite the traumatic experience, Beach-Mathura did not formally report the incident at the time due to fears of retaliation. However, she confided in friends and family about the assault, seeking solace in their support.

The lawsuit further alleges that Adams’ actions had lasting repercussions on Beach-Mathura’s career, leading to her forced transfer to another department and the loss of her seniority. Beach-Mathura’s suit seeks to hold Adams accountable for gender discrimination, quid pro quo sexual harassment, and retaliation.

The filing of the lawsuit comes months after Beach-Mathura filed a summons under the Adult Survivors Act (ASA), a special provision that allows sexual assault victims to bring claims within a specified window of time. The ASA has been instrumental in holding prominent figures accountable for their actions, including former President Donald Trump and disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.

As the legal battle unfolds, the allegations against Mayor Adams cast a shadow over his leadership and raise questions about accountability and transparency in public office. With both sides poised for a courtroom showdown, the outcome of this case will undoubtedly reverberate throughout the political landscape of New York City.
