The head of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue team, Chris Lloyd, says there have been more calls for help, mostly from walkers who found the team on social media. Emma Edwards-Jones of Adventure Smart underlined the need to know and reduce hazards. “People have embraced outside activities for their well-being post-COVID,” Edwards-Jones said. ” Many, though, do not completely understand the related hazards.”

Adventure Smart advises hikers to ask three important questions before entering the mountains in order to assist in addressing these concerns: Are they in a physical condition appropriate for the activity? Do they know of the present state of the weather? Do they have the suitable clothes and tools? Edwards-Jones stressed that rather than actual mishaps, many mountain rescue operations involve hikers who become lost or freezing from insufficient preparedness.
