Delhi and Mumbai on High Alert Following Serial Blasts in Kerala

In the wake of the series of explosions that rocked a prayer meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses at a convention center in Kalamassery, Kerala, heightened security measures have been put in place in the national capital, Delhi, and the financial hub of India, Mumbai.

The Delhi Police, in response to the tragic incident, has intensified security in crowded areas throughout the city. The Mumbai Police, taking into account the ongoing festive season, upcoming cricket matches, and the recent blasts in Kerala, has issued a high alert and increased security measures. Notably, security had already been beefed up at Chabad House, a Jewish center in Mumbai, due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The Delhi Police’s Special Cell has been in constant communication with intelligence agencies and is treating all available information with the utmost seriousness. They are actively working on strengthening security arrangements at crowded public places in the city, reflecting the significance of swift action in the aftermath of such incidents.

The tragic blasts in Kerala during a Jehovah’s Witnesses prayer meeting resulted in one fatality and left 36 individuals injured. The explosions occurred shortly after the commencement of the prayer gathering, which was held in Kalamassery, situated approximately 10 kilometers from Kochi. The event, spanning three days, culminated on October 27 and drew nearly 2,000 participants.

Kerala Police, in their initial assessment, confirmed the use of an improvised explosive device (IED) in the attack. In response to the gravity of the situation, a special investigation team (SIT) will be formed to conduct a thorough and comprehensive inquiry. Sources have indicated that the explosive device was concealed within a tiffin box.

In light of the severity of the situation and the potential implications, Home Minister Amit Shah initiated a telephone conversation with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Following this communication, Mr. Shah issued directives to the heads of two vital central agencies, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG), known for their expertise in counterterrorism investigations and operations. These agencies have been tasked with dispatching specialized teams to the scene of the incident in order to initiate a meticulous and exhaustive inquiry into the matter.

As the investigations continue and authorities work diligently to uncover the truth behind the tragic blasts in Kerala, the nation remains on high alert. The collective efforts of the central and state agencies are focused on ensuring the safety and security of the people and swiftly bringing those responsible to justice.
