National Film Award 2023 Highlights: Waheeda Rehman’s Dadasaheb Phalke Triumph

On a momentous occasion, legendary screen icon Waheeda Rehman was bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema, making her the eighth woman artiste to receive this coveted honor. The award ceremony took place at Vigyan Bhawan during the 69th National Film Awards ceremony, where President Droupadi Murmu presented the award to the 85-year-old actress.

Rehman, who received a standing ovation from the illustrious audience as she graced the stage, graciously dedicated the award to the entire film industry and its numerous departments. In her acceptance speech, she emphasized the collaborative nature of filmmaking, acknowledging the pivotal roles played by directors, producers, filmmakers, technicians, writers, dialogue writers, music directors, and musicians.

Waheeda Rehman’s illustrious career in Indian cinema has earned her numerous accolades, including a National Film Award for her remarkable portrayal as a clanswoman in “Reshma aur Shera.” She has previously been honored with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards, cementing her status as a legendary figure in the world of cinema.

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt was awarded Best Actress for her stellar performance in the film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi,’ while Kriti Sanon received the Best Actress award for her role in ‘Mimi.’ Telugu star Allu Arjun was named the Best Actor for his remarkable portrayal in ‘Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1.’

The immensely popular film ‘RRR’ was crowned as the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, with director Rajamouli and music composer MM Keeravani also receiving National Awards for their contributions to the film.

Furthermore, actor R Madhavan’s directorial venture, ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect,’ earned the title of Best Feature Film at the 69th National Film Awards. Pankaj Tripathi’s remarkable performance in “Mimi” earned him the distinction of Best Supporting Actor at the same prestigious event.
